If you have a Bully breed dog with sensitive skin, here are some tips that we have discovered and tested to be the best solutions to help keep our Bully Breed's skin healthy and irritation-free:
1. Nutrition & Diet
Food Allergy Testing- Consult with your Vet.
High-Quality Food – Choose a diet with limited ingredients, free of common allergens (like corn, soy, wheat, and artificial additives).
Omega Fatty Acids – Add fish oil or flaxseed to their diet to support skin health and reduce inflammation.
Novel Protein Diet – If allergies are suspected, try proteins like duck, venison, or salmon instead of chicken or beef.
Hydration – Ensure they drink plenty of fresh water to keep skin hydrated.
2. Grooming & Bathing
Hypoallergenic Shampoo – Use gentle, sulfate-free shampoos with soothing ingredients like oatmeal, tea tree, peppermint, aloe vera, or chamomile.
Limit Bathing – Too many baths strip natural oils; bathe only when needed (every 3-4 weeks or as advised).
Coconut Oil Rubs – Applying coconut oil can moisturize dry skin and act as a natural antibacterial remedy.
Brush Regularly – Use a soft-bristle brush to remove loose fur and dander while stimulating healthy oils.
3. Environmental Care
Wash Bedding Frequently – Use fragrance-free detergents to avoid irritation.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals – Clean floors with pet-safe products to prevent skin reactions.
Protect from Allergens – Wipe paws and belly after walks to remove pollen, dust, and grass that may cause irritation.
4. Vet Care & Supplements
Regular Vet Checkups – If you notice persistent itching, redness, or hair loss, consult your vet for testing and/or medication.
Probiotics & Supplements – Adding probiotics and vitamins like biotin or zinc can improve skin resilience.
Medications for Severe Cases – In extreme cases, your vet may suggest antihistamines, Presidone (steroid shots) special shampoos, or even vegan based
prescription food.
Our BEST advice is to live all- around as all-natural as possible! Keep your pets diet and grooming routines clean and consistent; this simplifies the process of elimination when identifying possible irritants and allergens.
